Octavia Frosted Winter 1

Hey everyone! Welcome back for another challenge over at Polkadoodles! This time we are doing winter birthdays! I chose Frosty Penguins from the Octavia Frosted Winter Collection, and painted the image with my inktense pencils.

Unfortunately I do not have a list of the colours I used for this image. But I can tell you my patterned paper came from the Octavia Moonfly Collection and they work wonderfully with this image!

Smooth Move

Smooth Move 1.jpg

Hey everyone! I live in bitterly cold Saskatchewan, Canada and my son is 5 and still learning how to skate, he spends plenty of time looking like this snowman does so I just had to colour it up! The image is Smooth Move from Sassy Cheryl Stamps, and is painted on Arches 140lbs Coldpress watercolour paper with my inktense pencils.

Unfortunately I did not write down what colours I use to paint this image.

Smooth Move 2.jpg

I used some of my older Authentique paper’s and the polkadot paper is out of my scrap bin, and a bit of twinery twine finished off the front of this card.  Still on this use up some of what I have in my stash so I can buy more stuffs!

Let’s Talk Inktense

Derwent Inktense pencils are a water soluble pencil, that dry permanent. These pencils are an amazing creation, the ability to add the colour onto the paper in pencil form, touch it with water and create this lovely vibrant paint, and then when its dry being able to glaze over these colours without having to worry about making mud is truly a great thing! Note, the pencils must be completely dissolved by the water for them to dry permanent.

As a cardmaker I love what I can pull of with these pencils, being able to create depth in the folds of clothing, adding backgrounds with different colours. I just really love being able to layer colours without having to worry about mud, just make sure to let them completely dry before adding a different colour.

This image is from Mo’s Digital Pencil – Angelina’s Balloons

The pencils allow you to be able to get a sharp point for adding the colour exactly where you want it on these small stamped images, also being able to lift the colour directly off the pencil to apply, I use both techniques as I have the full range in pencils but only the 24 range in the blocks. If I ever get my hands on the full range of the blocks I will use the pencils for colouring on the paper and the blocks for applying the colour by the brush.

I would not recommend these as your first dive into watercolour as you do not have the ability to lift colours, or move them around a bit after they are dry like you can with traditional watercolour. We will talk about those a little more another day.

Polkadoodles – 2 patterned papers

Winston Bear Etty Friends 1

Hey everyone! First things first guess who is now a DT member for Polkadoodles? Go on guess? Did you guess?? It’s me!! YAY! So for my first challenge with Polkadoodles as a full DT Member. This challenge is to use 2 patterned papers

Winston Bear Etty Friends close up

For my card I used Winston Bear Etty Freinds, I coloured it up with my inktense pencils (I apologize but I didn’t write down the pencils I used for this image)

Winston Bear Etty Friends 2

If you know my cardmaking style at all, you know that I tend to pile on a ton of layers of paper on my cards, I tried to keep my papers used down to a minimum, and I don’t think I did to bad at that task. I used 3 patterned papers and then the white paper you see in the background is actually embossed with flowers and circles on it even though they didn’t photograph very well.
